LSU Health New Orleans Nursing Students Becoming Nurse Leaders

LSU Health New Orleans School of Nursing sent nine delegates to the recent Louisiana Association of Student Nurses (LASN) annual state convention. They were accompanied by faculty advisors Marirose Bernard, MN, APRN, NE-BC, and Gretchen Deeves, MSN, APRN, CNM.

Delegates participated in focus sessions discussing various specialties in the nursing profession. They attended seminars about how to succeed in school and beyond. They also voted on issues within the state and elected the new LASN Board of Directors.

Several LSU Health New Orleans nursing students came home as brand new board members. Jaymalisa Whatley was elected as Region 4 Director, Lauryn Richard as BTN/ Membership Director and Daniel Lacy as IT Director.

The school also came away with a number of awards -- Having the Largest Number of Community Health Projects, Having the Largest Number of Members in the State of LA, 3rd place for the Image of Nursing Project, Best Overall Scrapbook Cover, and Best Presentation of SNA Activities in the Scrapbook.

"I can say we all had a wonderful time at the convention and have learned how to better ourselves both as students and future registered nurses," says Katelyn Freyou, LSU Health New Orleans School of Nursing Student Nursing Association President.
